About the Department

The West Annapolis Fire & Improvement Company, Inc. was founded in 1911. Although this is the legal incorporated name of the company, it is also referred to as the West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Department (WAVFD). It was originally located in West Annapolis and was part of what became the Annapolis Fire Department. In 1973 it moved to its current location on Jennifer Road and became part of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The mission of this Organization is the preservation of life, property and the environment, as well as public education and awareness.
This company, designated as Company 40, is part of the Anne Arundel County fire department. We provide emergency services primarily to Anne Arundel County, but also respond mutual aid to surrounding jurisdictions such as Annapolis City, Queen Anne County, Howard County, Prince Georges County, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Fort Meade.

Why West Annapolis Volunteer Fire and Improvement?

The West Annapolis Fire & Improvement Company, Inc. was founded in 1911 serving the community of Annapolis until moving to the County In 1973 to its present site on Jennifer Road where we continued to serve everyone west of the Severn River. As did our ancestors, WAVFD continues to server the community of Anne Arundel County as volunteers and purchases and equips our apparatus through donations from the community as well as stipends from the County Government. Thanks to all how have supported West Annapolis throughout the years and all who have joined and continue to join the ranks to make a difference within our neighborhoods!
