About the Department

Founded 1732 and Incorporated in 1854, the Salisbury Fire Department serves the largest City on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Today, the Salisbury Fire Department, under the command of Chief Richard A. Hoppes, operates out of three stations with 72 career personnel and 100 volunteers. The department covers an area of 48 square miles that includes the City of Salisbury and surrounding communities providing fire, EMS, technical rescue and special operation services 24/7. Fire Station 16 Headquarters is a 41,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility which contains 2 new Road Rescue Paramedic Units, 2017 Pierce Attack Engine, 95 ft. Tower Ladder, Technical & Rescue 16, Engine Tanker, Special Operations Dive Unit, Hazardous Materials Tractor Trailer, Foam Unit, Fire Boat, Command Unit, Air-lite Cascade Unit. The two other station each have a Paramedic Unit, Attack Engine, 75ft. Quint. In 2017 the department responded to 3,527 Fires and 10,054 EMS calls averaging 37 calls per day or a call every 39 minutes.

Salisbury offers many opportunities including Salisbury University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Wor-Wic Community College, Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, Wicomico Regional Airport, and Peninsula Regional Medical Center, distinguished as a Level II Trauma Center. With the volume of calls, you are able to gain invaluable Fire/EMS experience in s short period of time. Our live-in program enables students attending our local colleges and universities free housing (no rent or utilities) in exchange for staffing our fire and EMS units. There is nothing more rewarding than putting out a fire that threatens someone’s home, or saving a life through CPR, or being part of a team that is committed to providing superior Fire, Rescue and EMS service. Other Benefits:

Tuition reimbursement, Paramedic only. FREE FIRE/EMS training and State Certification, PRO-Boarding, Fees paid to upgrade Driver’s license Class A or B.
