About the Department

The Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, established in 1949, is a volunteer EMS organization that provides emergency medical services to the First Election District in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. The First District is a rural community in the southernmost county on the western shore of Maryland. We provide emergency medical services to the communities of Scotland, Ridge, Dameron, St. James/Park Hall, Historic St. Mary’s City, St. Inigoes, Point Lookout State Park (a site noted for its historical value during the Civil War), and the Naval Air Station Patuxent River – Webster Field Annex located in St. Inigoes. The Squad provides mutual aid to our neighboring Squads located in Lexington Park, Valley Lee, Leonardtown, Hollywood, Avenue, and Mechanicsville. The Squad protects approximately 7,100 permanent residents within 75 square miles of landmass.

Why Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad?

The Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad is made up of a variety of people; men and women of all ages who dedicate their time to make a difference in their community. We offer many benefits to our members to include free training courses (in addition to EMT certifications), state tax break incentives each year, and retirement benefits. Our auxiliary works diligently on new fundraising ideas and we all work together to ensure the best turnout and fun times are had by all.
