About the Department

The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department covers sixty-nine square miles in the northern part of St. Mary’s County. We operate out of two stations, 28165 Hills Club Road, which is the main station and a satellite station located at 29848 Therese Circle in Golden Beach. The main station houses two engines, an engine-tanker, tanker, heavy rescue and several support vehicles. The satellite station houses an engine-tanker and department rigid hull raft. we provide mutual aide to Charles, Calvert and Prince George’s Counties. The department responds to 900-1000 calls annually. The Department offers a live-in program for those interested.

You want to take advantage where your opportunities to learn, contribute and grow are virtually unlimited. We are comprised of the most dedicated group of volunteer firefighters who share the same common goal, to provide the citizens we serve with prompt, professional service in their time of need. We are family oriented and welcome those who want to join and grow with us. Our members are very knowledgeable, with many educated in various specialized disciplines who share their wealth of knowledge at our weekly training drills.
A live-in program is available to those who are interested with individual, private, dorm style rooms, a large members kitchen and two lounges. A weight room and study are among other amenities provided.

Training is provided free of charge and many of our members have used their training and experience to pursue careers in the fire service and/or emergency services, while still volunteering time to our Department.

We offer Cadet membership starting at age 14 and junior membership starting at age 16. Members can respond on the apparatus at age 16 once they have completed our in house comprehensive pre-basic program.

Our doors are always open and we encourage any prospective members to come by and tour our facility.

The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to providing for a safer community through prevention, preparedness, and effective emergency response.
