About the Department

The present day Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1964 after two catastrophic fires in the town. Earlier fire companies were organized in 1838 and 1899. The department is located in the eastern side of Frederick County, MD and responds to approximately 600 EMS and 400 engine company responses each year. We operate an engine company, heavy engine/rescue, a heavy 3000 gallon tanker, 2 brush units and BLS ambulance. We also house a county paramedic chase car. We have three county career personnel assigned from 6AM to 6PM, two of which remain for a full 24 hour shift. The ALS unit is also staffed 24 hours. We have an active membership with over 50 personnel LOSAP qualified in 2017.

Why Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department?

We are a very diversified department with respect to response. Though we are not extremely active in number of incidents, we run the gamut from auto and farm extrication to brush and wild land interface. We are also utilized as a back up station to transfer to more metropolitan stations around Frederick City. We have a very personable department and very family oriented. We are fortunate to still have a very active volunteer operational force.

Other Benefits:

  • Though we do not have a formal live-in program, we do have excellent bunk facilities and would be amenable to pursuing if a perspective member has an interest.
