About the Department

The Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Association, Inc. located in Howard County, Maryland is a full service public service organization providing fire suppression, rescue and paramedic level emergency medical services,

Today the volunteers work hand in hand with the six other volunteers as well as the career members of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue to provide high quality service to the citizens of Ellicott City and surrounding areas. Recent large events have been the flooding of main street on September 7 2011, the Train Derailment on August 22, 2012 and many other incidents. We look forward to the future and finding new ways to better serve the community.

Why Ellicott City Volunteer Firemen’s Association?

We offer two main types of membership active and associate. Please take a few minutes to review the description of both below.

Active- An active member is someone who is at least 16 years of age who attends meetings and drills while completing basic training in fire or EMS. Each member will have the opportunity to choose either fire training or EMS training first. Members who choose fire training will have to complete EMS training within 2 years of joining. Members will be on a 6 month probation period in which they will be expected to be cleared to function as a primary aide on the ambulance or a cleared independent on the fire truck. (applicants must be at least 16 years of age to join and will require parental consent)

Associate/Administrative- An associate/administrative member supports the department in many different functions including but not limited to community outreach, open house, fund raising. Associate/administrative members may also be asked to respond with the county rehab unit to bring refreshments and nourishment to responders on the scene of extended operations or any other time the unit is requested.
