About the Department

The Darlington Volunteer Fire Company has been providing emergency services to the citizens of Darlington and the surrounding areas since the late 1800’s. The company was officially incorporated in 1909 and has continued from that time assisting those in need. Thru the years the type of equipment and the people have changed but the mission has remained steady.

From our humble beginnings when a few men got together and put out a kitchen fire at the house next door to the towns doctor to today where we operate out of two stations and have some of the best equipment available, we are here to help our fellow citizen in their time of need.

In the beginning the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company started out with a few people that responded in a time of need on foot or horseback to any one of three stores in the then bustling town and obtained the Firefighting Gear and Equipment that the storekeepers had generously agreed to store it in their warehouse areas. In 1949 the companies first “Fire House” was built and a used Fire Engine was obtained from the Conowingo Dam Fire Department. That original Fire Station later was added onto and or operations continued to grow thru the years and eventually we ended up with the two very spacious, functional, and well equipped stations we have today.

Why Darlington Volunteer Fire Company?

The Darlington Volunteer Fire Company currently operates out of two fully equipped fire stations. We are operating three Class “A” pumpers, One Heavy Rescue, Two ALS equipped Ambulances, ALS equipped Chase car, Air unit/Mini Rescue Unit, Swift Water Rescue Support unit along with a 16 ft Swift Water boat and a 24 ft Fire/Rescue boat for operations on the Susquehanna River and in the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to these unit we also operate several additional Utility units that have various equipment and capabilities to fit our unique area.

The Darlington Volunteer Fire Companies Main station located in the town of Darlington and was opened for operations in 1998. This station houses a Class “A” pumper, Brush Unit, Air unit/Mini Rescue, all of our Marine Operations Boats and Equipment, and several utility units. This station also has a Social Hall that holds many functions and fund raising events thru out the year and provides space and services to our community members. Our Dedicated members of the Administrative Division are always working with our membership and the community to keep the Social Hall the center of the town for activities and fellowship. Our Administrative Division not only runs the Social hall and assists in raising funds for the company we also provide assistance to needy families in and around our community.

The Dublin Station of the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company is located on Whiteford Rd right across from the Dublin Elementary School. The Dublin station is the newest of the two stations and was opened for operations in 2008. The station is a fully operational station with Bunk and crew areas that can accommodate up to 15 members on duty at a time. The station houses two Class “A” pumpers, Heavy Rescue, two ALS ambulances, ALS Chase Car, and several utility vehicles.

Thru various Organizations, Federal, State, and local programs the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company is able to make available a wide variety of Fire, EMS, and multiple Rescue programs. There are several tuition programs that we participate with to help assist our members in their efforts to obtain Formal training from various collages in and out of Maryland. There are several state Tax incentives available to assist members that remain active and take training.

At the current time the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company does not have a “Live In” program nor do we have a incentive plan to “Pay” or reward members for Duty time.
