About the Department

The Arundel Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) has been proudly serving the Crofton, Davidsonville, Gambrills and surrounding communities in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties for over 50 years. As a part of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, AVFD provides all-hazards response to calls for emergency services, to include fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical emergencies, and relies on a cadre of highly-trained volunteers to ensure 24/7 staffing.

We are located in a rapidly growing community, currently averaging around 3,500 calls for service per year. AVFD is centrally located in Gambrills, near the intersection of Rt. 424 and Rt. 450, and responds to a variety of residential neighborhoods, businesses, elderly communities, and interstate highways.

To enable us to respond to emergencies in the community, AVFD currently maintains a variety of apparatus and equipment to include 2 Engines, an Ambulance, a Brush Truck, and a Rescue Squad.

For more information, please visit www.arundelfire.com.

Why Arundel Volunteer Fire Department?

AVFD provides numerous opportunities for members to serve the community to include emergency response, administrative support, and fundraising.

Members typically initially focus on either Firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician training, and become certified to ride the Fire Engine or Ambulance depending on their interests. Many members later choose to cross-train in both Fire and EMS, as well as pursue advanced training and certifications for Rescue Squad operations or Advanced Life Support.

No prior experience is required, and all Fire and emergency medical training is provided free-of-charge through the Maryland Fire/Rescue Institute. Classes are offered on nights and weekends to accommodate members with full-time jobs.
