About the Department

Arbutus VFD (AVFD) was founded in 1937. AVFD is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing the highest quality Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services to our community. We are one of 33 volunteer fire companies in Baltimore County and work hand-in-hand with 22 career stations serving a population of over 800,000. We provide fire, rescue, EMS, and swiftwater rescue to our community and respond to approximately 4,000 calls per year.

AVFD is one of the busiest and most successful volunteer firefighting organizations in Baltimore County and the state. In addition to emergency services and administrative operations, we have an active Auxiliary made up of men and women who do not wish to be active firefighters/EMTs and instead support the department through fundraisers and other events. We welcome anyone to stop by and learn more about our department!

Why Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department?

AVFD is one of the busiest stations in the county. With a variety of calls and numerous apparatus including 2 active medics, 2 engines, a squad, an ATV, and a swift water unit, our members are very involved in keeping the community safe. We put forth great effort to train our new members and we are proud of the welcoming environment we’ve built at our station. In addition to serving the community, we host a variety of fundraisers and offer numerous administrative opportunities for our members.

Potential new members are welcome to stop by at any point, tour the station, and learn more about AVFD. We look forward to seeing you!
